About me, Mrs. Tolin
After growing up in Parma, OH and graduating from Normandy High School in 2000, I went on to earn my Bachelor's degree in Integrated Language Arts (grades 7-12) from Kent State University. While there, I developed a passion for middle school-aged students and envisioned a future for myself which included teaching at the Middle School level for a few years, then going back to school to become a guidance counselor. I am really passionate about helping students in all facets--educationally, and personally--especially at their age of encountering difficult transitions.
In my last year at Kent, however, I completed my formal student teaching assignment at Nordonia High School, where I fell in love with the district, their students and their educational professionals. I developed an equally-strong passion for the high school-age group as well, and began to rethink my plans to ever leave the classroom at all.
2006-2008 My first formal teaching position was at Cleveland-Heights University Heights where I taught 9th gr. English, 9th gr. Honors English, 11th gr. American Literature and 12th grade Creative Writing and Satire. As most teachers can relate, my first two years of teaching were challenging and invaluable. I will forever be grateful to the students and staff who helped to solidify my transition from a college student into a professional educator. I remained in the CHUH district for two years until another opportunity opened within the Nordonia Hills District, when I couldn't resist the wonderful temptation to return.
2008-2011 In the three years that I spent at Nordonia High School, I taught English 9 CP, Eng 9 Honors and Eng 10 CP. Unfortunately, due to several failed levies and necessary reductions in force, my time at Nordonia had to come to an end. This news was devastating. On the upside, this heartbreaking situation came during a time in my life that was most exciting, my wedding.
July 16, 2011 I married my best friend and the love of my life. With this came the conversion from "Ms. Velotta" (a name previously much more familiar to my Nordonia family) to "Mrs. Tolin".
September 2011- June 2012 In my time away from Nordonia, I was lucky enough to spend time serving the Highland Local Schools District, as a long-term substitute at their High School in Medina. There, I taught English 10 and Accelerated English 10 and fell in love with the more "rural" atmosphere. The entire positive experience, with their students, parents and staff, was inspiring.
2012- Current School Year
Just before the start of the 2012-2013 school year, I learned that I was blessed to once again have the opportunity to return to the Nordonia Hills City Schools! I'm currently the 7th and 8th grade Language Arts teacher on NMS's "Split Team", Team Typhooon. I'm so happy to have returned to the community with whom I first fell in love over eight years ago!

In my free time, I enjoy rooting for our hometown teams, specifically the Cleveland Indians. (Go Tribe!) I'm also an avid reader, amateur photographer and a nature-lover. I come from a large Italian family and love to spend as much time as possible with each of them, including my nine nieces and nephews. My husband and I have recently celebrated our two-year wedding anniversary and have not welcomed any children of our own yet, so in the meantime, we're enjoying our two cats, Saige and Dolce.
